Wine Spectator, winespectator.com, 7/13 (10-year Retrospective)
(XTANT Napa Valley 2003): 91

"Notably supple, rich and graceful, offering smooth currant, plum and anise flavors, with a touch of mint, black tea and cherry folding in. At an ideal drinking stage. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec. Drink now through 2019." -James Laube

Robert Parker, eRobertParker.com, 6/13 (10-year Retrospective)
(XTANT Napa Valley 2003)

"Composed of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Malbec and 10% Merlot, the 2003 Xtant is a fruit-forward, complex effort that spent three years in French oak. It exhibits an aged softness and complexity that is rarely seen in early-bottled wines. The color is a dark plum/garnet, and the nose reveals scents of Chinese black tea, forest floor and red and black currants. There is a pleasant sweetness to the tannin, and although the wine is not that complex, I like the texture and volume on the palate. Drink it over the next 2-4 years."

"The 2003 Xtant (a 1,400-case blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Malbec and 10% Merlot) offers complex aromas of cedar, earth, chocolate, espresso roast, cassis, and blackberries. Even though it is from St. Helena, there is a Rutherford dust component to its aromatics. The wine possesses sweet tannins, full body, rich, concentrated fruit, and a long finish. It should drink well for a decade or more."

"Complex, velvety and totally charming; notes of spice, cassis, chocolate and vanilla; 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 15% Malbec."

Dan Berger's Vintage Experiences, Volume XII, Issue 34
(XTANT Napa Valley 2003)

"Exceptional... Superb aroma of dried cherries, faint herbal notes, and a deep layer of mid-palate fruit plus a delicate smoke note from French oak aging. A lot better than some of the $100 cult wines... perfectly structured, so the tannins were softer and more in balance with the other elements in the wine (fruit, acids, sugars, etc.)."

2003 75% Cabernet Sauvignon
10% Merlot
15% Malbec
